Violet diode lasers for DVD & CD mastering, printing, and evanescent wave techniques require a laser with the lowest wavefront error possible. Other parameters in the blue region are also much more stringent then those for red wavelengths. Our Lepton Series Violet Diode Lasers have special optics which were specifically designed for the 390-450nm region. Beam is 6mm diameter with well under 1/10 wave wavefront error. Beam pointing stability is well under 50 mrad with coherence typically 5 cm or so. We have two modules for the above applications. The Lepton II Series can be directly modulated with your own circuitry. Direct access to the diode laser pins ensures the shortest lead length possible. There is plenty of heat sinking to provide for low droop. The Lepton IV with temperature control is for those applications requireing a CW laser and used with AO modulators. Optically both modules are identical. One of the measures of the quality of the violet diode lasers is spot size. We compared a 670nm Lepton II diode laser module to a 405nm Lepton II diode laser module at an effective focal distance of 150mm. Below are the spot profiles for each of the lasers. |

Note: There are claims by others that their laser have diffraction limited optics. All optics are diffraction limited to some degree. What is important is wheather the "Beam", which is a combination of laser and all optics in it's path, is diffraction limited. The final beam output needs to be diffraction limited in order to generate diffraction limited spots. If it is not, then the spot generated is no smaller than what a red or NIR laser can generate. |
